Extensive programme of gallery refurbishment. Complete refurbishment of the Central Saloon and galleries 37-40, including new roofs and the incorporation of highly sophisticated services. At the heart of the project was the need to respect and conserve the historic fabric's detail and reinstate the original spatial sequence so these upper rooms would regain their architectural coherence. Traditional building materials and techniques ensured the finished project remained true to the original Sir Robert Smirke designs. This project is one of a number of projects undertaken through BDP’s ongoing framework agreement with the Museum.
