A flexible masterplan framework is guiding long term campus transformation, improved sustainability and enhanced student and staff experience.

As the University of Warwick's previous masterplan approached the end of its ten-year tenure, we were commissioned to craft a new development framework, reflecting their refreshed vision and growth ambitions for 2030. We were tasked with delivering a masterplan to position the University as one of the world’s most distinctive and exceptional campuses.
The plan reimagines the learning, living and working environment for students, staff and visitors while supporting local communities and strengthening regional connectivity. The masterplan fosters sustainable transport, reduces carbon emissions, and outlines development areas to restore the campus’s natural beauty, shaping Warwick’s transformation into a world-class university.

Establishing a resilient net zero pathway
Our Decarbonisation Strategy advisory services supported the University in developing a strategic framework for estate wide carbon reduction aligned with the masterplan. The challenge centred on creating a flexible and resilient pathway to net zero that could respond to changing funding mechanisms, policy requirements and technological advancements. Through detailed analysis and alignment with Warwick Standards, we provided the insight required to shape long term carbon reduction priorities.
The strategy prioritises brownfield redevelopment to protect green and blue infrastructure, while promoting the retention and optimisation of existing assets. This supports whole life carbon reduction, enhances resource efficiency and delivers long term value across the estate. Our advisory role ensures decarbonisation objectives are embedded within the wider masterplan, strengthening environmental performance and supporting Warwick’s ambition to operate as a world class, sustainable campus.

“BDP managed to streamline the process with a comprehensive engagement strategy, to ensure active engagement of stakeholders was fundamental to the masterplanning process.
The result is a masterplan that delivers on three fronts: A physical enabler of the University’s Strategy, a dynamic flexible framework to structure future investment and a visionary piece to shape wider initiatives of regional, national, and international partners.
The exceptional work from BDP has ensured we have the correct tools to challenge and interrogate future development, and transform our campus to achieve our target of becoming one of the world’s exceptional universities.”
