The Waid in the coastal town of Anstruther is built as a replacement for the school's previous ageing building. The three storey secondary school sits next to a local primary school and sports centre, forming the triangular Waid Community Campus. Taking inspiration from Anstruther Harbour where a large protective seawall wraps around a series of dynamic elements, the hub also includes a town hall, library, café, adult education space, enterprise kitchen, conference facility and police office, which wrap around a central atrium with an ICT workspace and enterprise pods. With reference to the coastal site, maritime planting extends into the main entrance. Agricultural barns in the surrounding rural landscape is reflected in the large architectural form of the design, with its massing, materials and colour selection all based on the vernacular of the East Neuk in Fife.
