BDP Quadrangle is seeking a Junior Accessibility Specialist to join their team on a 6-month contract. Junior team members of the Studio act in a way to promote the success of the firm by assisting with inclusive design strategies and practices across multiple projects and various public forums.

Overview of the role and responsibilities
- Basic understanding to analyze, interpret and apply technical knowledge (standards and legislation) to the built environment
- Awareness and ongoing interest in the accessibility and disability community to implement better design practices from community engagement programs;
- Uses accessible document and communication standards to support useable documents;
- Able to manage individual time and deadlines;
- Basic understanding and assists with coordination;
- Uses Human Space communication standards to ensure accurate and professional communications;
- Awareness of project fees and budget;
- Maintain high level production of work, seeking assistance when required;
- Proven ability to gather large volume of data, analyze, interpret and make recommendations;
- Work collaboratively as a team member.
About you
- Must have a college diploma or bachelor’s degree in disability studies, architecture, interior design, or equivalent;
- Understanding of accessibility legislation for the built environment and better practices;
- Approximately up to two years of experience in accessibility consulting;
- Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), InDesign, Bluebeam, AutoCAD and/or Revit;
- Previous experience creating and maintaining accessible documents;
- Excellent and effective communication skills with team members to ensure accuracy;
- Critical thinking, problem solving skills, and seeking assistance when required;
- Able to work collaboratively as a team member;
- Ability to travel across Canada;
- Ability to drive and holder of a valid Class G Driver’s License; and
- Good understanding of design implications for accessibility and usability;
- Good organizational skills of individual work through information management and communication of tasks, schedules and documentation.
