The Bull Tower breaks ground at 128 Peter Street

Construction is underway on The Bull Tower, a 40-storey purpose-built rental community designed by BDP Quadrangle for Kingdom Development in Toronto’s Entertainment District. The October 16 groundbreaking marked a significant milestone in transforming a long-underused site into 370 rental homes at the southwest corner of Peter Street and Richmond Street West.

Supported by $165 million in federal financing through CMHC’s Apartment Construction Loan Program, the development includes 111 affordable rental homes and 62 barrier-free suites. Studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom homes will support a range of households, with more than 35% of suites designed to accommodate families.

The design creates a dialogue between the contemporary tower and the neighbourhood’s historic streetscape. Warm masonry, bronze-toned soffits and metal panels in four shades of red and terracotta draw on the surrounding Victorian houses and brick-and-beam warehouses, while dramatic cantilevers shape the tower’s relationship with the lower buildings. Heritage rehabilitation and architectural commemoration preserve connections to the site’s past, complemented by a pedestrian-scaled podium and active ground-floor retail.

“We are marking the beginning of a new chapter for this site, one that respects its history, creates much-needed homes and contributes to the future of Toronto.”

Shared indoor and outdoor amenities will provide places for residents to work, play, exercise and gather, including coworking spaces, fitness facilities, a children’s room and landscaped terraces. The central location connects residents to transit, employment, cultural destinations and daily services, with extensive bicycle parking supporting sustainable travel.

A geothermal system is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 266 tonnes annually, supporting lower-carbon heating and cooling over the building’s life.

We celebrate this milestone with our client, Kingdom Development and the wider project team as The Bull Tower moves toward bringing new homes and renewed activity to this downtown corner.
