BDP has completed the shell and core refurbishment of Daniel House (previously the Daily Telegraph Headquaters) located on Fleet Street.

The listed Art Deco style building was originally constructed in 1928 and has since undergone several significant structural interventions which reflect the evolving functional requirements of the building.
The project involved the addition of a new floor to the top of the building and a glazed rooftop pavilion, justified through the demolition of the existing heavier penultimate floor which was replaced with a new lightweight floor. This approach avoided the need for strengthening to the existing structure or foundations helping to reduce cost to the project significantly.
As a result, BDP was presented with the ‘technical excellence award’ at the topping out ceremony by Mace for “creative thinking” and a “solution that broke away from the conventional approach offered by BDP’s peers”.
Work continues on the fit-out projects for the building which look to provide a high end dining experience with roof top views of the City of London and stylish office space in the heart of the city. The structures team are providing solutions to the latest requirements from building tenants using knowledge and experience of the building gained over the past three years during the shell and core refurbishment. The project provides a shining example of benefits to repurposing existing buildings for modern day requirements.
