BDP wins three RIBA Regional Awards

BDP has won three RIBA regional awards which were announced this week at events around the country.

The awards champion and celebrate the best architecture in the UK and around the world reflecting changes and innovations in architecture but, at their core, the winning projects display a commitment to designing and developing buildings and spaces for the improvement and enhancement of people’s lives.

Oldham Town Hall was the big winner picking up the special conservation award in the north west region. The judges said: “It is a bold composition and a very simple idea that has allowed the retention of a significant moment of Oldham’s past and gained a strong urban participant in its future.”

The other winning projects were Boxpark Croydon of which the judges said: “This brilliantly extroverted take on the traditional indoor market, brings a lively energy to the entrance of East Croydon Station; a stopping point on the path to the new developments along the railway.” Also Blackburn Meadows Biomass Plant in Sheffield which was praised as “A truly sustainable project, celebrating the past and present and providing a new 21st century icon for Sheffield.”

The work of our engineers was also recognised on two other RIBA award winning projects - Enterprise Centre for the University of East Anglia, and City Football Academy in Manchester as both of these also won the special sustainability award in their region. Our interior designers worked on The British Museum World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre which won a RIBA Award in the London region.

All the winning buildings will now go on to be considered for RIBA national awards with the successful projects revealed in June. The six finalists for the 2017 RIBA Stirling Prize will be drawn from these national winners.
