BDP is Health Architect of the Year

Building Design Partnership was voted Health Building Architect of the Year in last night's Architect of the Year Awards held in London.

The awards scheme which aims to identify the most outstanding architects across a range of different types of design work was organised by Building Design magazine. The awards in eleven categories were presented to the firms that are delivering the best and most consistent work.

The judging panel, unusual among architectural awards, was comprised of the country's most powerful and influential clients in each category.  They said of BDP  "The practice has displayed a range and depth of work fuelled by a serious research effort, which has particularly paid off in the area of children's hospitals." The judges said it had shown a real progression working with the client to produce better health buildings.

Martin Sutcliffe Director of Healthcare at BDP, who collected the award with fellow directors Andrew Smith and Benedict Zucchi, said "We believe that good design is a therapeutic force in itself.   It is particularly gratifying since our re-emergence in the health sector in the last five years that we have been able to apply lessons learned from the very diverse range of building types that BDP is involved in and from our study Learning from French Hospital Design.   It is also a tribute to our enlightened clients that we have won this award and we take a lot of encouragement from it."

BDP was also Runner Up in the Retail and Industrial/R&D categories.
