BDP unveils masterplan for Izmir, Turkey

BDP has revealed details for a major new project on the outskirts of Izmir, Turkey’s third largest city, for Turkish developer Megapol. BDP has produced the masterplan and concept design  for the Vaha Project which creates a new shopping and leisure destination for the region.

The narrow and highly visible site sits at the foot of surrounding hills and has several streams running through it. These unusual site constraints create a dramatic setting for this mixed use project containing over 175,000sq m of retail, leisure, education, social and religious buildings serving both the local community and the wider Izmir region. In addition BDP is working with Utopia Entertainment, Los Angeles based leisure consultants, on the development of a major fun park which will be integrated into the site acting as a further anchor to the eastern side.

The site layout creates a series of island destinations linked by active bridges and attractive landscaped routes. A central feature external space is overlooked by cafés and restaurants acting as a natural focal point for the project.

BDP is working with local architect EPIG on this project.
