Alder Hey tops out

Alder Hey Children’s Health Park in Liverpool marked its official topping out on 27 June with a special celebration attended by representatives from BDP, Laing O’Rourke, the hospital, Alder Hey Children’s Charity and members of the local community.

The event took place on the roof of the new hospital and included speeches from Sir David Henshaw, chair of Alder Hey, and Anna Stewart, CEO of Laing O’Rourke. They were joined by young charity ambassadors for Alder Hey Children’s Charity who marked the occasion by using their handprints to create a permanent commemorative concrete plaque on the hospital roof.

Chair of Alder Hey Sir David Henshaw said: “The new building is as impressive as we had hoped for and is testament to the hard work of all those involved. We have a lot of hard work to do as we prepare to move and use the opportunity the new building will give us to look after children and young people in the future. The excitement can now start to build as we prepare to open our doors to our new hospital next year.”
