Dublin office development goes in for planning

BDP’s environmental engineers are delivering one of the most efficient, sustainable and commercial offices in Dublin for Electricity Supply Board (ESB), Ireland’s foremost energy utility. Grafton Architects and O’Mahony Pike Architects are designers for the scheme.

A planning application was lodged with Dublin City Council this week to redevelop the city centre Fitzwilliam Street site, with a 35,000 sqm building to replace a 1960s block and double the workforce capacity. The design sensitively respects and enhances the Georgian streetscape, while facilitating the creation of a dynamic office space.

The new €150m development has been designed with sustainability as a core principle, and will achieve a BER of A and a sustainability standard of BREEAM Excellent. It will feature innovative, sustainable technologies which will reduce carbon emissions and running costs; for example rain water attenuation and recycling will reduce water consumption by 70%.

The building will link to a bustling new plaza area on James Street East, where restaurants and cafes will breathe new life into the surrounding area.
