Manchester: A Certain Future AGM

When: Tuesday 19th July 17.30 – 20.00
Where: Manchester Town Hall, Albert Square, Manchester M60 2LA

Gavin Elliott, Chair of Manchester: A Certain Future Steering Group, will present the MACF Annual Report at this year’s Annual General Meeting in the Great Hall of Manchester Town Hall. Highlights of the year include a continued growth in community-based projects and the prediction that the city’s carbon emissions will reduce by 32% by 2020.  Work has started on new cycle lanes across the city, cross-city Metrolink works are underway and the Council is sourcing a partner to deliver an updated district heating system for the city centre.

In January Manchester committed to becoming a zero carbon city by 2050 and the AGM will see the launch of the public consultation on the strategy. Guest speaker Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, will discuss the importance of climate change to the city’s long-term success and Professors Nancy Rothwell and Malcolm Press (Vice-Chancellors University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University) will talk about creating a zero carbon city for the future. This free event is jointly organised by MACF and Manchester Climate Change Agency and places can be booked using the link below.
