Evolution of Town and Gown

WHEN: Tuesday 7th March
WHERE: Oxford Brookes University, Oxford

Head of retail Peter Coleman will give a talk to Oxford Brookes’ students as part of the evening lecture series arranged by the university for external speakers to present interesting architectural projects.  Entitled The Evolution of Town and Gown, Peter will present the 5.6 hectare Westgate project in the centre of Oxford on which he and his team have been working as masterplanner and lead architect with a number of other architectural practices, due to open this autumn.  BDP’s masterplan ties together a retail led mixed use development consisting of individually designed buildings, connected by a crossweave of covered and naturally ventilated public spaces, arcades and lanes and Peter will discuss the challenges of integrating a major retail centre into such a historic city.
