BDP Is Winner Of Teambuild For The Second Year Running

rEvolve, a team from BDP’s London studio, has won Teambuild, the second year running for a BDP team. Teambuild is a national competition that challenges young professionals in the construction industry to work and present on a real life design challenge.

After a pre-qualification process, BDP’s interdisciplinary team was chosen to compete at the intensive weekend long finals stage against eight other teams at Eynsham Hall in Oxfordshire. The other teams were from top engineering and architectural practices such as Arup, Buro Happold and Foster + Partners.

Team members showcased their strength in interdisciplinary thinking and joined-up design approach through dedicated preparation, co-ordination and skilled presentations. The challenge encouraged understanding and co-operation between all the disciplines and was a challenge the young team members thoroughly enjoyed.

Sarah Hobday-North, BDP architect and urban designer said of the event “The atmosphere of competition but also camaraderie between the teams was amazing.  We were pushed to our limits but the team pulled together to meet every challenge.  It was a really rewarding experience and built confidence in our skills both as a team and as individuals.”

During the weekend, the teams were challenged to plan and design the development of a new civic centre in South London. In a simulation of the design and construction process for the development of a real site, competitors presented their work before a pre-eminent judging panel from industry institutions including ICE, IstructE Educational Trust, CIBSE and CIOB.

The young team was commended for showing “excellent group dynamics, skills in co-ordination, integration, presentation and leadership.”
