BDP appointed for University of London masterplan

BDP has been appointed by the University of London to undertake the masterplan for Senate House and its environs, which include a rich range of buildings and spaces of historic significance which contribute to the special character of the area.

Senate House was designed by Charles Holden in 1926, and the masterplan will revitalise and establish the iconic building as the academic hub for the University and its colleges. Along with the other buildings nearby this will create a coherent focus and will provide new collaborative settings for teaching, learning and research.

Director of architecture Chris Harding said “This is a major win for BDP's London studio. The primary goal of the Masterplan will be to unlock the innate potential of this important part of central London and create a cohesive and stimulating identity for a world leading university, one of the oldest, largest and most diverse in the UK. There will be a high level of interest in the project and we are really looking forward to working with the wide range of stakeholders who will be involved in the process.”

Paul Wilkinson, Director of Property and Facilities Management said: “The University of London is delighted to be working with BDP its masterplan. BDP has a tremendous track record in delivering successful masterplans in the university sector and as such will be instrumental in ensuring that the University of London realises the fundamental aims and objectives of the project in providing a world class university environment in London’s Knowledge Quarter. Moreover, the Masterplan will set the vision and strategic framework to guide future development of the University of London for the next 10-20 years.”

BDP will be working closely with the University Estates team in the coming months and liaising with key stakeholders on the plans.
