Project details

In the city centre of The Hague, a former department store has been transformed into a multifunctional education building as part of Leiden Univeristy's Campus The Hague.

Flanked by buildings on four sides, the former warehouse has been transformed into a vibrant oasis of knowledge, with lecture halls, self study areas, well appointed offices and essential support services. Throughout the design process, the well being of students and employees was paramount, resulting in a captivating three dimensional landscape that promotes connection, collaboration and focused concentration.

Dynamic spaces weave through the building with different degrees of openness. These green spaces act as social hot spots and anchor points along the pathway. The spaces bridge the gap between the university's core themes of international law, politics and globalisation with the sustainable ethos of CO2 absorption, climate adaptation, emission-free (building) materials and healthy food.
