Architect of the Year shortlist announced

We have been shortlisted in the categories of Higher Education Architect of the Year, Interior Architect of the Year and Public Realm Architect of the Year for BD’s Architect of the Year Awards, the only awards to reward architects for a consistent body of work throughout the year.

In higher education we continue to masterplan sustainable new campus sites for universities across the UK with significant ones including London, Warwick and Sheffield Hallam and we are designing major buildings for universities in Birmingham, Coventry, Strathclyde, Manchester and Edinburgh. Completed projects include an innovation hub for Keele, a focal point for its new main campus, and the Alliance Manchester Business School which retrofits a large scale 1970s development.  Overseas our completions include the new south campus for Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University and Nanjing Medical University in China, as well as the Indian Institute of Technology in Mandi.

The diversity and range of our interior design portfolio, across a variety of sectors, allows us to connect with our clients in an informed and unique way and we have been at the forefront of designing for the workplace for some time, working with high profile corporate clients including Google and AstraZeneca. Our framework agreement with PwC provides interior design and consultancy services to support and enhance the company’s brand and our latest completion for them is a flexible, contemporary workplace for 2,000 staff in Birmingham’s new Paradise development scheme. Other recent completions include the fit-out for Cambridge Assessment’s new HQ and a comprehensive refurbishment of a 24 storey 1960s building for Westminster City Council.

In the public realm our aspiration is to create sustainable landscapes which balance the needs of people with those of the wider environment and we have prepared  public realm designs for parks, urban spaces, city quarters and town centres. Completions include Beckenham Place Park, now transformed into the largest public park in south east London, which reconnects the park with its surrounding communities and provides much needed high-quality open green space. In Ireland we are working on three public realm improvement schemes in Dundalk, Sligo and Tralee and our international projects include masterplanning commissions in Turkey, Vietnam and Canada.
