RIBA Journal Office Developments Webinar

When: 8th July 2020, 9.00am

Manchester studio architect associate Phil Ellis will be presenting Merrion House, Leeds as a case study for an RIBA Journal PiP seminar on award winning office developments. This free to attend webinar offers an insight into the latest thinking and research on workspaces and Phil will join industry experts Julie Fleck OBE, Sunil Johal (BeFlow), Edward Williams (Edward Williams Architects) and Ben Hancock (Oscar Acoustics) to examine how beautiful, accessible and creative spaces can help organisations to attract and retain staff, as well as improve employee wellbeing, creativity and productivity.

Merrion House is a refurbished and redeveloped 1970s office building occupied by Leeds City Council, which provides 15,500 sqm of affordable, modern office accommodation for 1,900 staff, based around smart working that maximises occupational efficiency and creates a revitalised workplace. The refurbished block and annexe are linked by an atrium, which provides a welcoming setting for both the public and staff entrances. Located in close proximity to several conservation areas, the building has been remodelled to embody the client’s aspirations for a high quality workplace with a considered material palette and external appearance that is sympathetic to its surrounding context. Designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent, the Category B office fitout includes a gas-fired generator that produces onsite electricity that can be exported back to the grid with the potential to connect to the wider district mains.

Following the presentation Phil will be taking questions and registration for the event is via the link below.
