Royal Hibernian Way in Dublin wins top award for retail fit out

In conjunction with our partners, McKeon Group, we have been awarded the retail prize at the 2020 Fit Out Awards for our work at Royal Hibernian Way in Dublin.

Royal Hibernian Way is located within the heart of the Dublin’s city centre retail area with prominent, recognisable frontage in an emerging retail and mixed-use district. The refurbishment and rebranding project has transformed it into a high quality destination, revitalising an important pedestrian link into the city.

Architect director Michael Mullen said: “We are delighted that Royal Hibernian Way took home the first prize in the retail sector at this year’s virtual Fit Out Awards. The collaborative process and intricate architectural designs for this influential and important retail area of Dublin has resulted in a world class shopping destination for the city. It’s great to see the project getting the recognition it deserves and it’s wonderful to pick up another design award just before the end of the year.”

The works required substantial alterations to the layout including the enclosure of the Mayors Walk to South Anne Street for the creation of a new anchor retail unit and rejuvenation works to the streetscape and shopfronts.

Works specifically included the removal of all shop fronts, alterations to the concrete structure to redefine the retail space, streetscape paving, bespoke cladding, and the installation of all new shop fronts including signage and glazing throughout. Internal alterations created new retail space on both sides of the street.

The creative reimagining of the shopping spaces has reinvigorated the area with stores now occupied by high-end retailers including Boylan’s Shoes, Carol Clarke Jewellers, Leonidas Chocolates and a hospitality offering which includes Marco Pierre White steakhouse, Isabelle’s restaurant, and the Lemon & Duke bar. Low carbon material specification within the stores means that the carbon footprint of the shopping area has been reduced significantly, whilst providing a more enjoyable customer experience.

Launched in 2012, the annual Fit Out Awards recognise and celebrate excellence in this specialist sector, in Ireland.
