Two CEEQUAL 'Excellent' Awards for BDP

Two BDP projects have been given CEEQUAL Awards this year, both achieving the maximum threshold of ‘Excellent’. CEEQUAL is the assessment and awards scheme for improving sustainability in civil engineering and public realm projects.

Derry City Centre Public Realm, which opened earlier this year, was given a Whole Project Award with a score of 92.1%. The scheme involved significant public realm improvement works adjacent to Derry’s historic walled city centre, and has created a high-quality, vibrant and modern urban environment. This has set the context for social interaction, supports economic activity, provides space for cultural activity and entertainment and raises the city’s image overall.

Glencorse Water Treatment Works, which is due to complete in 2011, was given an Interim Client and Outline Design Award having achieved a very creditable 83.5% score. The project is set to replace two ageing water treatment works in Edinburgh and provide the city with clearer, fresher drinking water for generations to come. The project team is committed to providing a sustainable project with particular emphasis on sympathetic landscape design, on-site renewable generation and high levels of stakeholder engagement. This benchmark is expected to be carried through the construction phase to ensure environmental performance throughout.
