Project details

The master planning involved a collaborative effort with Guy's and St Thomas' Trust, aiming to streamline their infrastructure to offer modernised clinical services. It is part of a 15-year masterplan strategy that explores commercial clinical and academic opportunities across their main sites. The master plan serves as the foundation for an estates strategy that will upgrade the Trust's assets to align with its clinical objectives, focusing investments in areas that enhance efficiency, consolidate the estate, and reduce operational expenses.

The master plan encompasses an analysis of GSST's St Thomas' Hospital site, situated opposite Westminster and the Houses of Parliament, as well as Guy's Hospital in London Bridge. By combining these two sites, there is a potential for approximately 500,000m2 of new developments encompassing clinical, academic, commercial, and residential spaces.

At the St Thomas' site, preservation of the World Heritage and conservation area was considered while opportunities to expand the clinical facilities for Evelina Children's Hospital and establish a new Cardiovascular Hospital were identified. Massing option studies were conducted to explore the maximum area and height of the structures, allowing us to determine a level of development that GSST deems suitable for the subsequent stages of design.

At the Guy's Hospital site in London Bridge, integrated the new Cancer Treatment Centre into a master plan that acknowledges the evolving landscape of London Bridge. This approach enabled us to develop a massing strategy and respond effectively to the surrounding developments and the overall area.
